the must see films of 2008

the below films all contain a fantastic story, guaranteed oscar nominations, and the acting/directing is just off the charts this year. if you haven't be out to the movies in a while, go now while you can still see these films on the big screen. (i plan to take my own advice as well).

rachel getting married [A]: why? the story - go be a fly on this family's wall, please because they are fantastic. of course, hathaway delivers an amazing performance. couldn't keep my eyes off her.

doubt [A]: why? the gender fight within the catholic walls. this is not your typical catholic priest/alter boy story. meryl's finest performance (can you even say that with all her amazing roles?)

slumdog millionaire [A+]: why? the awards but most importantly i have had more people to telling me to see this film than an other. that says something.

the reader [tbd]: why? started from an opera book club, the story seems complex and stirs morality issues, plus quite frankly winslet for me is my generation's meryl streep. i don't like missing any of her performances.

revolutionary road [A]: why? the moment i heard of this film, i couldn't wait. we are having a movie day with friends to see this one. sam mendes is brilliant (american beauty) especially capturing the torture within the beige walls of surburbia. again, winslet paired with dicaprio, you can't go wrong. And I was right. Great, great film.

vicky cristina barcelona [A]: why? i didn't write a review on this and i need to go back and do so. i loved and related to the story of what ifs and going with the moment (or not) and being trapped or freeing yourself. you watch two characters experience the fallouts/benefits of their decisions. plus the ensemble acting and location is some of the best this year.
