the color purple [A]

moviemcpeake snippet: all i can say is that this should have won more oscars. out of africa with meryl streep was fantastic and wonderful but this film had more emotion, passion, liberation, and pushed the envelope with a wide variety of topics. whoopi was so amazing, so incredible.

there are only 2 films i have come across that are great pairings with their novel counterparts. fried green tomatoes and the color purple. both films differ from the book and in some places greatly differ. however, they seem to compliment each other well, filled holes or showed you the other side of things that you wanted to know or see or read about.

recommendation: read the book, see or re-see the film, and then catch it on broadway.
